Dating site fraud

by deceptive billing practices

Dating site fraud is becoming more prevalent, as Christian dating service sites gain popularity, the dishonest side of the internet is beginning to take notice.

One of the more popular scams with less than honest online dating sites, Christian or otherwise is deceptive billing.

Accomplished by hiding billing requirements in intentionally and excessively long terms of service in the hope that the reader will ignore the fine print, these sites put the responsibility of canceling on the member.

Even a member that has joined for a month membership will automatically re-billed for additional months, unless they go to the account page and turn off automatic billing.

Some of the pure dating site fraud scams will keep on billing even though the member has turned off the automatic billing feature.

To avoid this scam only join dating service sites that you have done some detective work on.

  • Thoroughly and completely read the sites T.O.S. or terms of service, no matter the length.
  • Look for a contact phone number or physical address for the sites management..
  • Search for the sites registration information on one of the “Whois” sites. If the listing is private and no contact information is available, begin to wonder why the owner is trying so hard to hide his/her identity.
  • Before joining any site check it out at ripoffreport.com.
  • Type the name of the site in question into your favorite search engine and add the word scam then do a second search tih the words rip off.
  • Use a check to join a site for the first month, if the site turns out to be everything promised then renew your membership with your credit card..

Remember that unless you take some sort of action your membership will automatically renew at the specified time. If you originally joined for one month then it will renew on a monthly basis. If the original length was three, six or twelve months then the membership will renew accordingly. Twelve months! (ouch)

Those intending to commit dating site fraud take advantage of our tendency to forget things, they are well aware that one three month, semi-annual and annual memberships, they will have the opportunity to renew at least once for a large sum of money!

Online dating is like anything on the internet, do your homework, use some common sense and trust your instincts.
